Rio de Janeiro is world famous for being a great urban climbing center.
Surrounded by rocky mountains, Rio offers great options to rock climbers of all levels and styles. Most are just a few minutes far from your accommodation, by bus, taxi or subway.
The Sugar Loaf, Corcovado, Dois Irmãos and Pedra da Gávea are some crags with several routes.
For those with more time, and looking for full-day adventures, the Serra dos Órgãos (in Teresópolis) is one and a half hour from Rio, with spectacular landscapes among the mountains, and high standard challenges for the most experienced.
Dedo de Deus (the God's Finger) and the Escalavrado are examples of fantastic mountains, with moderate routes or hikes, next to urban areas. The Agulha do Diabo (the Devil's Niddle) is remote, and better to make in two days, to enjoy it more. This is considered one of the 15 most beautiful routes in the world. Especially because it is in the Serra dos Órgãos National Park.
